Being in Foster Care
It all began in the 3rd bedroom in the house on Halsted and Division. Our house was in the projects in a terrible neighborhood. I remember nasty, horrible smells. It was so bad you hear gun shots everyday.
I was a little girl until I got took. It could be any time of the day. It could be any season, it could be rain, sleet, and snow outside.
I am in foster care ever since I was three years old because my mom was a drug user and she still is. My brother and all my sisters are all in foster care and my father is not a part of my life because he gave up his rights when I was just three years old.
It was very hard for me when I got took from my mom when I was just three and not able to see her at all. Now I am 16 years old and I need to find my mom so I can ask her some question about things she did to me and my brother and sisters. My mom only had 3 kids and now she has 6 and all of them are in foster care.
Pictures that stand out in my memory and I was not in foster care was when my aunt was still alive and I was at home with my grandmother or aunties. I lost my favorite aunt when I was three and that’s when I got in the system and now I am still in the system and it’s called D.C.F.S.
I think it was a good thing for me to be in foster care because if I wasn’t, I would be some where I don’t want to be. I gained a lot of strength. I am very smart and I am very beautiful, responsible, and respectful. Even if my mom didn’t teach me how to be that way I chose to be that way. I can do much more and be much more. I am dependable on my own.
People always tell me that I am nothing and never will be so I try to prove them wrong.
I am very respectful to others and my self. I have a lot of confidence in my self. I believe in things other people don’t, like strange things. My strengths are baseball, basketball, track, and swimming, but my weakness is math. My friends admire my smile, style, and the way I am kind to them. I dislike when people treat other kids wrong and disrespectful. That is just not right. My hero is GOD. What makes me a leader is that I can respect others as well as myself and do things that others can’t do and encourage others to start being leaders too.
