Grandfather
“Excuse me Ms. Cole, can you please come down to the hospital we need to talk to you about your husband”. It was December 15, 2005 11:35 am when my grandmother received a phone call from the nursing home my grandfather was in. When the family got there the doctor told them that my grandfather has just been pronounced dead. My mother and aunt began to cry when they heard the bad news. It was a cold winter day. I was at home watching my brother and sister when we found out that he (Tom Cole) had died. The family went home to be with each other in there time of need.
It was December 22, 2005 the day of Tom Cole’s funeral. I was nervous and sad because my cousin and I were suppose to read a poem that we both made up. Just before it was time for us to read the poem we wrote, my cousin broke down crying. Now I had to read the poem on my own. When the preacher called my name to read the poem my family showed me love so I kind of felt comfortable. When I finished the poem everybody stood up and clapped and that showed me I did a wonderful job.
Just as the funeral was over, we went home, and while walking in the door we received another phone call. This time it was my brother saying his girlfriend was at the hospital and she was having her baby. That night at 11:47 pm my brother had a son, Austin Levon Wells Jr.
The big challenge was that I knew that my grandfather had left me but at the same time someone new has been brought to the family. Although it hurt I have to acccept that he’s gone. Every time I see my nephew I began to see my grandfather who lives in him. When I was going through the difficult time of losing my grandfather my brother’s girlfriend Alexcise was there for me. Alexcise is a strong independent women who has respect for everyone. She keep me going when I was about to give up on life itself.
The hard part was being around negative people in my father house who are immature. No matter how hard things began to get I still stayed strong. I would really consider my life as a heroic journey.
