One day my Mother’s car wasn’t working and she had to go to work, so she decided to get on the bus and the train so she would get to work on time.  She had a good day at work but on her way back it wasn’t so good.

When she was getting off the train on her way home she was robbed by three men.   They took her purse and  dumped everything out of it.   The three men had a gun so she had no choice but to cooperate. The good part about is that she didn’t have much in there …. she only had sixty dollars. And they didn’t get her phone because she had it in her shirt.

The challenging part of my mom being robbed for me was to see her cry. When my mom came home she walked up the stairs and spoke like nothing happened so I didn’t think anything was wrong, but when she got in the house she told my brother that she had been robbed then my brother came on the porch and told us to come in the house and see what’s wrong with mamma.

When we came in the house we went to her room and she was standing there with tears running down her face so I asked her what was wrong and she told me and my little brother what had happened.

I’m not sure of the exact street she was on or what train she was getting off of, but she was on the west side of Chicago, like Cicero and Lake.  It was about seven o’ clock at night when she got home, so the robbery happened most likely between 6 and 7. I remember the day like it was yesterday, I can still picture my mom walking up the stairs speaking to everybody that was on the porch just like the happy women she always is, I remember the exact out fit she had on. It was some blue jean pants, a black dress shirt, some black boots and her black coat with the gray black and white scarf that she always had just hanging around the coat. I can still see that bright smile on my mother’s face, if my brother wouldn't have told us what happened we would have never found out.

I was involved with my mom getting robbed because it’s my mom and I care about her so it was like it happened to me. I was involved for about a week because my mom didn’t want to go anywhere by herself so I  went with her.   I had to comfort her on that day when she cried and I gave her money that she didn’t have with no problem, because I know she would do those things for me

Some of the losses I had to deal with was the money my mom lost, and just the thought of my mom being threatened with a gun by three men and them getting away with it makes me angry every time I think about it. There wasn’t really anything gained from this event but higher self esteem to know that you can make it through.
