Moving to Elmwood
I am 14 year old and I am in the 9th grade. I go to EXCEL Academy at Orr campus. I came from McNair Elementary School.
My event happened when we moved to the city from Elmwood Park. In the city the buildings are tall, some are better, and the streets are clean. The neighborhood is fun. I had moved sometime in the springtime. It felt warm outside. I was just 11 years old when I moved. In the city, I could just smell the city air. I was happy to move from Elmwood Park. I was happy because I could have fun, I could have people come over my house without catching a bus, I didn’t have to graduate from Locker High School. I can walk around my grandma’s house. I gained confidence. I could come outside now in the city without having someone stalk me or watching me doing things.
Back when I moved to Elmwood Park, it was sad because I thought my life was over. I thought I wouldn’t see my friends anymore. I didn’t like moving to Elmwood Park from the beginning. The people in Elmwood Park. weren’t the same as the people in the city. The people in Elmwood Park were strange. There were sniper-men out there, people from the nuthouse used to be walking around. In the city you don’t have to worry about sniper-men or strange people from the nuthouse walking around.
Some of the losses that I had to deal with in the city was I lost someone named Fed. He was kind of like an uncle to me. He was a family member to everyone. Fed got killed in September by someone, a boy. The police didn’t even catch the boy who killed him. Everybody was out there when he got killed. It was a sad moment because the people didn’t pick his body up until three-something in the morning. Why did he have to go so soon?
The people who were involved in my heroic journey is my uncle Fed who I had talked about at the beginning, my mom, my sisters and me. My weakness is to lose one of my family members because those are the people I love. My strength is to be with and help my family members. I am happy I moved because I know everybody in the city. I don’t have to worry about anything. I can catch the bus to the mall. I can walk to places. I was sad one day because we had come to the house early to pack our stuff so we could move. When my mom said we were moving back to the city I was so happy.
