Football

The most challenging thing that happened in my life was when I was playing football on the south side of Chicago. I was playing at South Shore School of the Arts, and we were playing Hyde Park. Hyde Park been our rivals for many years. Since the three years I was attending South Shore we won about three or four games, we lost about five or six games. We had to face Hyde Park on a Friday afternoon in the month of September. It was raining and the field was muddy, everyone was slipping, sliding, and falling down.

September 21, 2005, was game day, and it was my birthday. We were in the first quarter, and Hyde Park scored the first touch down of the game. Time seemed like it was going by too fast, and  all we know is the first quarter was about to end. It was two minutes left in the first quarter and Hyde Park scored again. Now everyone in the crowd thinks we are going to lose because Hyde Park seems unstoppable.

The second quarter bangs and we receive the ball, the running back runs a good ten yards before he gets hit, but when he do get hit he fumble the ball and Hyde park ran it back for a touch down. I’m thinking to myself, we’re going to lose, and I’m thinking we are going to lose badly. So now we are losing by three touch downs, its twenty-one to zero, that’s looks really bad on our part. Ok, we down by three touch downs and Hyde Park scored again.   Now I’m thinking, I’m going to give up and sit on the bench, because we could not score.

The third quarter bangs and Hyde Park receives from a kick return. They run the ball about ten yards then bam! They fumble and we return the ball for a touch down. Now we are down by three touch downs. We still down by a lot. It’s one minute on the clock and we scored again. We are coming back slowly,  we might win.

The fourth quarter bangs. We are down by two, can we come back and win?
We have the ball and we scored again. Now we are down by one and the crowed is going crazy. We score again, and  now we are tied. It is one minute on the clock. We can go into over time or we can try to win it all.

It’s one minute on the clock, and the play was for me to run the ball back.  I run it just as planned. I was about one yard away from the touch down and out of nowhere I get hit, but I land the touch down, and we win.
